ART2HEAL

ART2HEAL is a project running in select spaces in the Borough of Richmond upon Thames providing art in health environments (wards, Waiting rooms and therapy rooms) to promote healing via visual stimulation

Project aim:

Utilise available wall spaces in heath centers and clinics to promote healing through the arts and provide a platform for contemporary art, whilst at the same time benefiting your patients through access to art.

• Help healthcare providers introduce artworks into their environment at a minimum cost with sponsorship from local businesses / Donations ( to cover printing costs & Delivery of works)
• Provide access to reassuring and stimulating works of art through loan schemes adapted to the needs of the healthcare community
• Make it as easy as possible for healthcare facilities to display artworks, by taking care of fixings and maintenance
• Encourage patients, visitors and staff to engage with art on display within the healthcare environment

The Benefits:

The beneficial effects of art in a healing environment are so well established that art strategies have become an integral part of refurbishment schemes and new building plans. Hospital wards, waiting rooms and healthcare establishments world wide have incorporated art and creativity in to there environments to reduce sickness, anxiety and stress in their facilities. Through the ART2HEAL project we can create environments that improve health, wellbeing and the healthcare experience for patients, their families and staff.

Our surroundings have an impact on the way we think and feel. Artworks create a welcoming and stimulating environment, conducive to improving wellbeing and promoting a positive image of healthcare.

There is now an overwhelming body of evidence demonstrating that participating in the arts and having access to artworks can dramatically improve clinical outcomes and mental and physical health.

Recent clinical studies have concluded that placing original artworks within the healthcare environment can:

• Reduce levels of anxiety, stress and depression
• Reduce patients’ length of stay within the hospital – Reduce the use of some medications
• Improve communication between patients and healthcare professionals
Taken from ‘A Study of the Effects of Visual and Performing Arts in Healthcare’ completed by Chelsea and Westminster Hospital from 1999 to 2002.

Displaying uplifting art work in a health facility brings comfort and reassurance to those visiting as patients and those working with in it.

We are currently looking for sponsorship from individuals and businesses to help with printing costs, your support will be very much appreciated
